Bio

Philip Dunn is in his first year as the Head Men's Cross Country Coach after spending the previous three seasons as an assistant under former head coach Ian Cumming. Before coming to San Diego City College, he coached at San Diego Mesa College, helping lead the women’s cross country team to a PCAC conference championship and a third place finish at the regional championships. He is eager to help his runners become successful on and off the field of play.

As an athlete, Coach Dunn competed in three consecutive Olympic Games for Team USA in 2000, 2004 & 2008. He represented the U.S. in over 25 international racewalking competitions at both the 20km and 50km distances. He was ranked #1 in the U.S. several times and won eight U.S. National Championships, including the 2008 U.S. Olympic Team Trials. He won a bronze medal at the 1999 Pan American Games.

Dunn competed as a cross country and track runner in high school and at NCAA Div. III Carleton College. Dunn graduated cum laude and received his BA degree in English from Carleton in 1993. 

Coach Dunn holds a Level 1 Coaching and a Cross Country Coaching Specialist Certificate from USA Track and Field. He currently serves as the Chair of the Board of Directors for the US Anti-Doping Agency.
