Two days after clinching their second consecutive outright PCAC championship with a 9-0 win over Mt. San Jacinto, the Knights swept Imperial Valley, 9-0, to complete a perfect conference season in which they did not lose any singles or doubles matches.
The Knights finished 8-0 in the PCAC while also extending their conference win streak to 13 over the last two seasons. They also ended the regular season with a 13-4 record and a .765 win percentage, which is the best during head coach Jami Yonekura-Jones' 12-year tenure at San Diego City.
"I am so proud of what my team has accomplished this year, both on and off the court," said Yonekura-Jones. "We had a talented group of players and our goal was to win the PCAC for the second year in a row and only the third time in program history.
"They were dedicated to this goal throughout the season and were able to make this goal a reality through their hard work and sacrifice," continued Yonekura-Jones. "They worked together extremely well, which led to not only winning the conference, but being undefeated as a team and at every position in both singles and doubles. I am grateful to my team, support staff, and San Diego City College for the opportunities I have been given as the head women's tennis coach."
The 13 wins also ties for second-most under Yonekura-Jones, but she and her Knights will get a chance to keep adding to their win total when the postseason begins on April 8.
The Knights, who are ranked No. 4 in Southern California, will find out their playoff opponent on Sunday when the 3C2A announces the dual team regional brackets.
Before the playoffs begin, the Knights will look to continue it's dominant season at the PCAC singles and doubles championship, which will take place from April 3-5 at Grossmont College.
