Knights Make the Playoffs For First Time in Program's History
The San Diego City College women's soccer team wrapped up its most successful season in school history with a 5-0 win at Imperial Valley last Friday, and today, the Knights found out they are headed to the playoffs for the first time ever. The Knights are set to play at Long Beach City on Thursday, November 18 with the game time yet to be announced.
The San Diego City College women's soccer team wrapped up its most successful season in school history with a 5-0 win at Imperial Valley last Friday, and today, the Knights found out they are headed to the playoffs for the first time ever. The Knights, who are seeded No. 18 are set to play at No. 15. Long Beach City on Thursday, November 18 in a Southern California regional play-in game.
The winner of Thursday's game will advance to play No. 7 Ventura (15-3-3) on Saturday, Nov. 20.
Long Beach City finished the 2021 regular season with an 11-6-2 record and won the South Coast-South Conference title with a 7-4 record.
The Knights did not face Long Beach City in the regular season, but they did get a feel for them in a scrimmage on August 20.
San Diego City went 11-4-3 overall this season and finished third in the PCAC with a 10-4-2 record. It was the most wins for the program in both categories.
The Knights also set new team records for win percentage (.688), goals (42), and longest win streak (7) in 2021.
Tessa Fernandez, who scored two goals in the final regular season game, tied Sydney Sanchez for most goals on the team with seven a piece. Sanchez led the team in total points with 18. Riana Kitchen and Fatima Valle put in six goals each.
Defender Kiki Josephson led the Knights with five assists on the season. Sanchez and Anais Thompson recorded four assists each.
