San Diego City's women's basketball team has qualified for the 3C2A Southern California regional playoffs for the third time in its history and the first time since 2018. The Knights (17-11, 7-5 PCAC) earned the No. 23 seed and will travel to play at No. 10 Ventura (18-10) in the first round of the tournament on Wednesday, Feb. 28 at 7 p.m.
All three postseason appearances have occurred during head coach Andrea Aguilar-Montalban's 11-year tenure.
The Knights will go into Wednesday's playoff having won three straight and four of the last five to finish with 17 wins, the most in the history of the program. The previous record for wins was set in the 2016-17 season when they won 14.
Those 14 victories in 2016-17 helped San Diego City make its first-ever postseason appearance. The Knights also qualified for the playoffs the following season in 2017-18.
San Diego City was eliminated in the first round in both of those playoff years, but will be looking to get their first-ever postseason victory at Ventura on Wednesday.
The Knights did not play Ventura during the regular season, but have some familiarity with them after scrimmaging against them in October.
The winner of Wednesday's game will advance to play at No. 7 Irvine Valley (21-7), which has a first-round bye, on Saturday, March 2.
"This is the healthiest we've been since the preseason," said Aguilar-Montalban. "We are excited and ready to give everything we got!"
San Diego City was one of four teams from the PCAC to make the 48-team tournament. Palomar (No. 6), Imperial Valley (No. 11), and San Diego Mesa (No. 16) also made it in.
Admission for all 3C2A postseason games is $12 for the general public and $8 for students, faculty, staff, senior citizens age 60 and over, and children less than 12 years of age.
