The San Diego City women's badminton team defeated Irvine Valley, 15-6, on Wednesday and Mesa, 21-0, on Friday to win their third consecutive Pacific Coast Athletic Conference championship. It is the third straight season that the Knights have finished with an undefeated regular season, a streak of 22 matches.
By winning the conference title, the Knights have qualified for the Southern California regional final against East Los Angeles, champions of the South Coast Conference, on Wednesday, April 30 at 3:00 p.m.
The winner of that playoff will head to the state championship match, which will be held at De Anza College in Cupertino, Calif. on May 8.
Head Coach Son Nguyen has led the Knights to the state championship match the previous two seasons, defeating San Francisco in 2012 and losing to De Anza in 2013.
Under Nguyen, the Knights have won a total of four state titles. Those came in 2006, 2007, 2008, and 2012.
