Knights Shutout SWC in 1st Game of Doubleheader
San Diego City split a doubleheader against Southwestern, winning the first game 9-0, but dropping the second, 12-6, despite a late push. Savannah Turner and Shyann Beddow each hit 3-run home runs in the win and Hadley Phipps pitched a complete game shutout.

The first game of Tuesday's doubleheader turned into a pitcher's duel for the 4.5 innings with neither team able to put runs on the board. The Knights, however, took control of the game after scoring five runs in the bottom of th 5th.
Cali De La Rosa started the rally with a one-out triple and then scored the game's first run on Sydney Letzing's single. Letzing then stole two bases to get into scoring position and came home on Madison Stephensen's hit to make it 2-0.
Later in the inning with two out, Turner crushed a 3-run home run, her second of the season, to center field to give the Knights a 5-0 lead.
After Phipps retired the side in the top of the 6th, the Knights added four more runs in the bottom half of the 6th to end the game.
With the bases loaded, Stephensen hit a sacrifice fly to put City ahead 6-0 and Beddow followed with a 3-run homer, her second of the year, to finish off Southwestern, 9-0.
Phipps allowed only five hits in the win and earned her second shutout of the season.
The Knights struggled in the second game and fell behind 9-0, but scored four runs in the bottom of the 5th off two RBI singles by Karah Barajas and Beddow, and two more Knights came home on an error.
Southwestern added three runs in the 6th to regain a 12-4 advantage.
San Diego City kept fighting, but only managed to get two more runs the rest of the way and had to settle for a split on the day.
