The Knights earned home wins over Ventura and Santa Barbara over the weekend, both of which ended on walk-off hits from Sabrina Figueroa, and fell short against L.A. Harbor who beat them in an 8th inning tie breaker.
Figueroa gave up only one run off five hits with seven strikeouts in Friday's game against Ventura and then, with the game tied and the bases loaded in the eighth inning, she hit a single to left field that ended the game and gave the Knights a 2-1 victory.
The Knights were back at it Saturday morning against Santa Barbara and scored the first four runs of the game, but found themselves trailing, 8-7, going into the final inning. Alyssa Gonzalez started things off with a single and then moved over to second base on Ava Kopperschlager's sacrifice bunt. Vanessa Tirado followed with a single through the left side and was able to get to second on the throw home.
With two runners in scoring position, Figueroa came through once again with a bloop single to right field that allowed both runners to come home and give the Knights a 9-8 victory.
City played on more game on Saturday afternoon against L.A. Harbor and fell behind, 4-2, but a 2-RBI single from Kopperschager tied the game in the bottom of the third. The game remained that way until it had to go to a tie breaker in the eighth, due to a one hour and 45 minute time limit.
Both teams started with a runner on second base, but only L.A. Harbor was able to bring that runner home as the Knights fell, 5-4.
The Knights are now 6-6 overall and will be home again on Monday in a vital conference game against Desert at 3 p.m. The Knights have a 4-2 PCAC record and currently sit one game behind Palomar and Mesa for first place.
