KNIGHTS MAKE PLAYOFFS FOR 3RD STRAIGHT SEASON; WILL HOST GLENDALE IN FIRST ROUND
The San Diego City College men's tennis team is headed to the the state playoffs for the third consecutive year and will host Glendale College (14-4) on Tuesday, April 9 at 2 p.m.
The San Diego City College men's tennis team is headed to the the state playoffs for the third consecutive year and will host Glendale College (14-4) on Tuesday, April 9 at 2 p.m.
It will be the second meeting of the season between these two teams with the Knights winning the first match, 6-3, on March 1.
The winner of Tuesday's playoff will advance to play either No. 1 Cerritos (15-2) or No. 8 Saddleback (11-7) on April 16.
The Knights finished the 2019 regular season with a 15-6 overall record and a 9-3 league record, which was good for 2nd place in the PCAC. It's the fourth consecutive year that City has earned at least 2nd place in conference. The Knights won the PCAC championship in 2017 after going 12-0.
The 15 victories this season are the most for the Knights under Head Coach Brandon Lupian, who took over in 2007. City also had its longest winning streak under Lupian in 2019 as the Knights rolled of 11 straight victories after dropping the first two matches of the season.
City has gone 42-21 over the last three seasons and has made it to the playoffs in all three.
City opened the postseason on the road the previous two seasons and suffered first round losses at Irvine Valley (0-5) in 2017 and at Cerritos (0-5) in 2018.
