The Knights got past Imperial Valley, 3-1, on Tuesday for their second consecutive win and third in the last four with Isaac Velazquez scoring a brace and Carls Gudiel putting in his first goal of the season.
City improved to 4-4 in the Pacific Coast Athletic Conference and moved up to fourth place with four games left, including a big home match against first place Cuyamaca on Friday, Oct. 26 at 3 p.m.
Velazquez, who was named PCAC Athlete of the Week for the second time this season after scoring five goals last week, scored his first of the day in the 33rd minute on a penalty kick. He found the back of the net once again early in the second half when Brett Woodworth set him up for his state-leading 20th goal of the season.
Imperial Valley got one back on an own goal, but Gudiel put the game away in the 80th minute with a far post shot from the left side that was set up by a pass from Velazquez.
City goalkeeper Sebastian Guillen had four saves on the day and now has 115 this season, which is the most in the state.
