Friday's home game against Victor Valley was a back-and-forth affair with the visitors equalizing on two occasions, but the Knights two leading scorers, Isaac Velazquez and Brett Woodworth, each put in a goal in the final 20 minutes to give them a 4-2 win, their second in a row.
The Knights struck early when Akuar Yamun took advantage of a Victor Valley turnover and scored his first of the season in the seventh minute.
But just as in the previous game at Orange Coast, City's 1-0 lead only lasted until early in the second half when Victor Valley's David Haley tied the game in the 49th minute.
Seven minutes later, the Knights regained their lead when Velazquez linked up with Woodworth down the right side. Woodworth took the ball and dribbled in past a defender and beat the keeper with a grounder to the far post.
Victor Valley came right back with another equalizer in the 66th from John Hernandez.
Fortunately for the Knights, they have two of the top scorers in the state and they were able to produce with the game in the balance. Velazquez put the Knights ahead for good in the 70th minute when he blasted in a shot from 25 yards out.
Then, in the 77th minute, Carls Gudiel found a streaking Woodworth down the right side again and he found the back of the net to put the game away.
Velazquez leads the team with eight goals, which is tied for third most in the state. Woodworth is right behind him with seven goals on the season.
City goalkeeper Sebastian Guillen had six saves on Friday and has a total of 61, which is the most in the state.
The Knights have two home games next week to start the PCAC season. They host Palomar at 1 p.m. on Tuesday and Imperial Valley on Friday, Sept. 29 at 1 p.m.
