After the Knights took a 2-0 first half lead, Southwestern came back to tie it with with less than 30 minutes left to play, but City's Yovanny Contreras' goal in the 79th minute gave City the lead and eventually a 3-2 win to improve the Knights' PCAC record to 2-1.
Friday's game started off very open with end-to-end action and both teams exchanging shots, but it was City's Juan Balandrano who struck first. Balandrano took a pass from David Dircio inside the box and scored his second goal of the season in the 18th minute.
In the 38th minute, Carls Gudiel sent a pass to Suleiman Saney who was making a run down the right side. Saney dribbled past a Southwestern defender and then beat the Jaguars' goalkeeper for a goal, his first of the year, to put the Knights ahead 2-0.
Southwestern, however, responded with a goal from Kevin Gomez five minutes into the second half to cut into City's lead. The Jaguars struck again in the 65th minute with a goal from Luis Duenas that tied it at 2-2.
It was looking like the game was headed for a draw, but the Knights had other thoughts. City's Javier Monarrez took the ball and dribbled down the left side of the box, stopped as he approached the end line, and then send a pass back towards the top of the box where an open Contreras took a quick tough and then fired in the game-winning goal in the 79th minute.
The Knights, who are now 3-6 overall, have won two of the last three games as they head into a week where they host Mesa on Tuesday, Oct. 11 and then travel to play first place MiraCosta on Oct. 14.
