Bio

Chris Brown is entering his 24th year as the head coach of the Knights and his 33rd year of coaching at the community college level. He earned a bachelor's degree in History from Mount Vernon Nazarene College in Mt. Vernon, Ohio and a Masters of Science in Physical Education from California State University, Fullerton.

While attending Mt. Vernon, Coach Brown earned first team all-conference honors as a shortstop and was a member of the 1989 NCCAA National Championship team. After graduating, Coach Brown followed his goal of playing professional baseball to Sydney, Australia where he played for the Sydney Metros during the inaugural season of Australian Professional Baseball. During his stint as a Metro, the team recorded the longest professional road trip in history, a 56-hour bus journey from Sydney to Perth, crossing the entire continent of Australia to play a three-game series.

In addition to playing for the Metros, Coach Brown initiated the Metros Youth Baseball Development program. Brown contacted over 800 youth baseball players and coaches through in-school lectures, camps, and clinics. 

In 1990, Brown began his college coaching career at Saddleback College in Mission Viejo, California. During his seven years as a Saddleback assistant coach he contributed to two Orange Empire Conference championships and one state championship runner-up.

In 1997, Brown became the first head baseball coach for the El Paso Community College Tejanos. Not only did he start the intercollegiate baseball team at El Paso, but he played a role in creating and developing the foundation of intercollegiate athletics as a brand new entity at El Paso Community. Brown was also responsible for the fundraising and building of the Tejanos Baseball facilities. The Tejanos advanced rapidly as a competitive program and posted a 23-20 record and earned a trip to the NAIA Region V playoffs during their second season of competition.

While in Texas, Coach Brown also became a professional scout for the Texas Rangers. He is recognized at the national level from his six-year service to USA Baseball. In 1998, Brown served as a Team Trials coach in Joplin, Missouri for the 18u USA Collegiate Team. In 1999 and 2000, Brown was an assistant coach for the P.A.L USA Youth National Championship Team in Stuart, Florida and the 2000 USA Youth Pan-Am championship team, defeating powerhouse Cuba 2-1 in Monterey, Mexico. Over the two-year span, his USA teams recorded an undefeated 16-0 record.

In 2001, Brown was named the head coach of the World Championship USA Youth National Team and guided them to the gold medal in Veracruz, Mexico, defeating Venezuela, 5-2, and extended Team USA's undefeated mark to 26-0 over the three-year period. Coach Brown continued with USA Baseball as the YNT Trials Director in 2003 and trials committee member until 2005.

Coach Brown has completed 22 seasons as the head coach of the San Diego City College Knights who have been competitive in the Pacific Coast Athletic Conference. The 2010 team won the PCAC championship with a 26-7 record and was ranked 2nd in California, and 4th in the West Coast (Washington, Oregon and California). The Knights baseball program is well-respected in Southern California both on and off the field and have placed 13 players into professional baseball and over 75 players into four-year colleges and universities across the country during Coach Brown’s tenure. Brown currently resides in Jamul California with his wife Jennifer, son C.J, and daughter Kaeli.
