San Diego City swept this week's 3-game series against IVC and finished the season series with a 4-1 record against the Warriors.
A day after getting a big 4-1 win over No. 17 Chaffey that could help their resume when being considered for the postseason, the Knights got off to another good start in Saturday's game vs. IVC after Pfitzner blasted a 2-run homer to left field in the bottom of the first. It was his 14th home run of the season, which puts him in a tie for the most in the state.
Imperial Valley scored an unearned run in the top of the third after an error, but the Knights answered with their second home run in the bottom of the third. This time it was Hilke with his first homer of the season to give City a 3-1 lead.
Two innings later, Gonzalez hit is seventh home run of the year, a 2-run shot to left field to give the Knights a 4-run advantage.
Imperial Valley got within a run after scoring two in the sixth and one run in the seventh, but Ely responded with a solo home run, his fourth, in the bottom of the seventh and Brock Bass drove in a run on a fielder's choice to put City ahead by three.
Each team scored two run in the eighth inning and then IVC nearly tied it in the ninth after scoring two runs and putting a runner on second base with two out, but relief pitcher Aiden Joaquin got the next batter to ground out to end the game as he earned his second save of the year.
Starting pitcher Erik Radder won his second game after pitching six innings with four strikeouts and no earned runs.
Up next for the Knights will be a 3-game series vs. Mesa which starts on Tuesday at Morley Field at 2 p.m.
