Well before hitting the game-ending homer, Garcia put the first two runs on the board for the Knights with a 2-run home run to left center field in the bottom of the 2nd.
Palomar tied the game in the top of the 4th on a 2-run home run by Evan Ianniciello. The Comets then added two more runs off an RBI single and a sacrifice fly in the 6th to take a 4-2 lead.
City's Nick Mora got the Knights to within a run after scoring on a wild pitch in the bottom of the 6th and then hit an RBI single in the 7th to tie the game at 4-4.
Relief pitcher Makana Fo came in at the top of the 7th and held Palomar to just one hit with three strikeouts over the last four innings.
With one out in the bottom of the 10th, Garcia came up and hit his seventh home run of the season to give the Knights the series-opening win.
The Knights improved to 8-8 in the PCAC and 8-17 overall.
These teams will play at Palomar on Thursday at 2 p.m. before returning to Morley Field on Saturday for the final game of the series, which begins at noon.
