The Knights ended Southwestern's 11-game win streak with a 4-3 victory over the Jaguars on Thursday to improve to 16-16 overall and 10-10 in the PCAC.
City's starting pitcher Garrett Yocum allowed three earned runs off 11 hits with five strikeouts in 8.1 innings.
The Knights got on the board first with three runs in the bottom of the third. A throwing error on Matt Bagdasar's sacrifice bunt allowed Kody Lewis to score. Anthony Warneke then hit a 2-RBI single to left field that put the Knights ahead, 3-0.
In the bottom of the fourth, Bagdasar got caught in a pickle while attempting to steal second base, but was able to make it back to first base without being tagged. Lewis, meanwhile, took advantage of the distraction and made his way home from third base during the pick-off attempt to give the Knights a 4-0 lead.
The Jaguars answered with three runs off four hits in the top of the fifth to get within a run of the Knights at 4-3.
The Knights threatened in the bottom of the sixth by loading the bases with two out, but the inning ended on Cesar Fitch's ground out.
Yocum did not allow any runners to get into scoring position the rest of the game, but after giving up a single with one out in the top of the ninth, Head Coach Chris Brown gave the ball to Frank Lopez to finish out the game. Lopez, who played left field up until that point, came in and got the final two batters to fly out and strike out.
Lopez earned his third save of the season, while Yocum improved to 4-9.
The Knights will play at Southwestern on Saturday, April 22 at noon to complete the 3-game series with the Jaguars.
