Shortstop Anthony Warneke went 3-for-5 on Thursday afternoon with three RBI and three runs. First baseman John Salda went 2-for-3 with four RBI and one run.
Warneke, who is hitting .347 on the season, got the day started on a good note with a lead-off double in the first inning. After moving to third base on Scott Martinez' single, Warneke was able to score the first run of the game on Salda's ground out. Martinez later scored from third base on a wild pitch to put the Knights ahead 2-0.
Imperial Valley's Jordan Cochran scored the Arabs' first run of the game on a Warneke throwing error in the top of the third inning.
The Knights added to their lead with three runs in the bottom of the fourth. With the bases loaded and no outs, Warneke picked up an RBI on a ground out, Martinez pulled off a squeeze bunt to score Diego Blanco, and Salda hit a bunt single to allow Martinez to score and give City a 5-1 lead.
Imperial Valley got two runs back in the top of the fifth, but the Knights answered with two runs of their own in the sixth inning, both of which came on RBI singles by Warneke and Salda.
City blew the game open with five runs off four hits in the bottom of the eighth to take a commanding 12-3 lead.
Warneke hit another RBI single, Salda was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, Frank Lopez then hit a 2-RBI single to center field, and Alex Bentley hit a sacrifice fly for the fifth run of the inning.
Imperial Valley tried to rally in the final inning, but only managed three runs as the Knights went on to win their second straight.
The teams meet again on Friday at noon at Morley Field for the final time this season.
