Sophomore starting pitcher Kyle Peeler threw a complete game shutout with three strikeouts in the Knights 6-0 home win over Southwestern on Tuesday afternoon. The Knights improved to 7-4 overall and 1-1 in the Pacific Coast Athletic Conference.
Christian Broussard was responsible for the first run of the game in the second inning with a lead-off solo home run that stayed just inside the left field foul pole.
Later in that same inning with the bases loaded and one out, Kiki Leyva hit into a fielder's choice that allowed Ricky Kliebenstein to score and give the Knights the early 2-0 lead.
City had a very productive fifth inning, scoring four runs off six singles to take a commanding 6-0 lead over Southwestern. Raymond Jones, Gabriel Santana, Broussard, and Kliebenstein each hit RBI singles during that inning.
Southwestern's biggest threats came in the second and third innings when the Jaguars had a runner on third base in each of those innings, but Peeler ended those threats with a pop out and a fly out, respectively.
Peeler improved to 2-1 on the season in his fourth start.
