San Diego City College's women's cross country team participated in its first meet in nearly two years on Friday and came away with a first place finish with freshman Sofia Chernyak leading the way as the individual winner of the meet, which included Cuyamaca and Imperial Valley.
The Knights had five runners finish in the top 10, including sophomore Yesenia Huerta (3rd), sophomore Cali Lopez (5th), freshman Isabelle Dalton (6th), freshman Mariana Lara (9th), and Rachel Karalnik (10th).
The 3-team race was held at Harry Griffen Park in La Mesa and the course length was 2.2 miles. San Diego City won with a score of nine points and Cuyamaca placed second with 12 points.
"I was very impressed with how the team conducted themselves from start to finish," said Head Coach Marco Anzures. "It is a sign of good things to come this season. We had good group running with each pair of runners on our team working together at some point during the race."
City's next meet will be the Coach Downey Classic at Morley Field on September 24 with the start time set for 11 a.m.
