Davies With 20 Kills in 3-1 Win Over Cuyamaca
Sophomore Ashley Davies recorded a career-high 20 kills to go with 10 digs, two aces, and two blocks in the Knights' 3-1 (25-6, 25-19, 22-25, 25-14) home win over Cuyamaca on Friday night. The Knights improved to 6-6 in the PCAC and moved into a fourth place tie with Palomar.
Sophomore Ashley Davies recorded a career-high 20 kills to go with 10 digs, two aces, and two blocks in the Knights' 3-1 (25-6, 25-19, 22-25, 25-14) home win over Cuyamaca on Friday night. The Knights improved to 6-6 in the PCAC and moved into a fourth place tie with Palomar.
Jadian Dilg had nine kills and three total blocks in the win, while Alexis Mines added six kills and four digs in the win. Charisman Saymo led the defense with 13 digs, her second-best output of the season.
San Diego City jumped out to a 9-3 lead in the opening set and cruised to a dominating 25-6 win.
Cuyamaca got off to a 6-2 start in the second set, but the Knights went on an 11-4 run to grab a 13-10 lead to force a Cuyamaca time out. The set was even at 17-17 before the Knights closed it out with an 8-2 spurt to win 25-19 and go up 2-0.
City struggled in the the third set and fell behind 18-12. The Knights chipped away at that deficit and got within two at 24-22 after a kill by Davies, but Cuyamaca got the final point to win the set.
With the scored tied at 4-4 in the fourth set, the Knights pulled away with a 9-2 run and went on to win the set, 25-14, and the match.
The Knights will play their final home match of the season on Wednesday, Nov. 2 at 5 p.m. vs. MiraCosta. There are six sophomores, including Davies, Dilg, Saymo, Jillian Geenen, Veronica Allen, and Riley Hearn that will be playing in their last match at Harry West Gym.
