It was the first time this season that a limited number of spectators were allowed inside Harry West Gymnasium and the Knights gave them a show as they fell behind twice, but managed to recover each time.
After dropping a very tight opening set, San Diego City responded with a strong performance in the second set and went on to cruise to a 25-15 win to even the match at 1-1.
Imperial Valley hit back with a 25-17 win in the third set to take a 2-1 lead, but the Knights were not done. Their defense held strong as they accumulated a total of 132 digs and 14 blocks.
Playing the libero, Jadin Holland recorded 38 of those digs, while Alyssa Fletes added 25.
That defense helped them tie the match up once again with a 25-17 win in the fourth set to force a fifth and deciding set.
The final set was was a back-and-forth battle with neither team being able to put together a good run, but the Knights capitalized on some IVC mistakes and pulled out a 15-13 victory. The final point was an endurance test and a microcosm of the match as it lasted nearly a full minute with Elizabeth Hunsaker putting down the final kill, her team-high 22nd of the night.
City will play at Miramar on Friday at 5 p.m. and then will be back home on October 27 vs. Palomar, also at 5 p.m.
