San Diego City's women's tennis team clinched the outright conference championship on March 26 and they now have some major individual awards to go along with the title. Sophomore Sinaia Haskal has earned PCAC Athlete of the Year and Jami Jones was named PCAC Coach of the Year.
As City's No.1, Haskal helped the Knights to a 7-1 conference record by going undefeated. She won all eight of her singles matches and all eight of her doubles matches, while dropping only one set all PCAC season.
Jones received her first conference Coach of the Year award after leading the Knights to their first PCAC championship in 24 years. Her Knights have been very competitive in conference play for several years and came up just a little short of a title in 2017 when they finished only one match behind. They also earned second in 2018 and 2023, but they finally broke through this season.
"It is truly an honor to receive the 2024 PCAC Coach of the Year award for women's tennis," said Jones. "I feel fortunate that I have had the opportunity to be a coach at San Diego City College for the past 12 years and thankful for the support that I have received from everyone at City.
"My athletic director, our athletic trainers, my assistant coach, the administration, and all of our support staff. Most of all, it has been a privilege to coach so many amazing women during my career and share a part of their lives."
In addition to the title and awards, the Knights will be making a postseason appearance for the first time since 2018. The first round is scheduled for April 9 with seed, opponent, and match time to be determined.
