Knights Pull Away in 4th for 70-45 Win over IVC

The game was tied up at 17-17 after the first quarter, but City outscored IVC, 12-4, in the second quarter to grab an eight point halftime lead. The Knights made 5-of-12 (41.7%) from the field in the second quarter and held IVC to just 14.3% shooting.
Imperial Valley, behind Malena Ponchione's team-leading 19 points, went on a 10-1 run in the first 3:11 of the third quarter to cut City's lead down to 32-31, but the Knights hit back with a 16-5 run that included three straight 3-pointers. Imani Moore, who totaled eight points and seven rebounds, knocked down two of those, which were her first two 3s of the season.
City had a 48-38 lead after three quarters and then put the game away in the first three minutes of the fourth with Lloyd scoring nine points during an 11-0 run to start the fourth. She ended up with 15 points and seven rebounds in the final quarter as the Knights pulled away for the win.
In a starting role, Gianna Spatafore had a season-high eight points and eight rebounds. Cerina Nguyen added seven points, five rebounds, and four blocks.
Wednesday's game was the second of a 4-game home stand. The Knights are home again on Friday, Feb. 18 against first place Palomar who are ranked No. 5 in the state. City's final home game is scheduled for Feb. 22 at 5 p.m. vs. Grossmont.
