City Starts PCAC Season With a 48-39 Victory Over IVC
The San Diego City women's basketball team returned to action on Friday after a month without any games and the Knights delivered a 48-39 home victory over Imperial Valley to start the PCAC season. Kaniya Lloyd had 13 points, nine rebounds, and six steals, while Sarah Henry added a game-high 17 points to go with nine rebounds to help the Knights snap a 2-game skid.

Kaniya Lloyd had 13 points, nine rebounds, and six steals, while Sarah Henry added a game-high 17 points to go with nine rebounds to help the Knights snap a 2-game skid.
The Knights struggled on the offensive end in the first quarter, making just six of their 19 shots, but they held Imperial Valley to 3-of-14 shooting and came out of that opening period with a 14-7 lead.
City's defense was even better in the second quarter with Imperial Valley only able to score four points. Lloyd scored six of her points of the Knights' 11 points in the second quarter to help the Knights build a 25-11 halftime lead.
San Diego City went up by as many as 16 points early in the third quarter, but Imperial Valley ended the quarter with a 10-2 run to get within eight. The Knights held IVC at arm's length for most of the quarter, but a 3-pointer from Mariana Cantu cut City's lead down to seven points with 3:47 remaining.
The Knights, however, answered back with seven straight points from Sarah Henry to put the game away.
Cerina Nguyen had a strong performance on both ends of the floor with nine points, eight rebounds and five blocks.
The Knights improved to 5-10 overall and 1-0 in the PCAC. They will travel to Mesa on Monday, January 24 for a 6 p.m. tip and will be back at Harry West Gym on January 26 against the No. 3 team in the state, Palomar, at 5 p.m.
