Knights Suffer Losses to Diablo Valley, Southwestern

In Friday's game against Diablo Valley, the Knights got down by 12 points late in the first half, but went on a 9-2 run in the final three minutes of the second quarter to get within five at halftime.
Cerina Nguyen, who scored 16 points and brought down 15 rebounds, cut Diablo Valley's lead down to 51-49 with 8:42 left in the fourth quarter, but that's as close as they Knights could get. Diablo Valley responded with a 10-2 spurt to pull away and went on to win, 74-61.
Caitlyn McCoy also recorded a double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds. Kaniya Lloyd added 16 points and nine rebounds.
Four Knights scored in double figures against Southwestern on Saturday, including Vean Gorgees' 17 points, but it wasn't enough as the Jaguars got the 72-63 win. San Diego City trailed by only four points after the first quarter, but shot a poor 25% in the second quarter and Southwestern took advantage by outscoring the Knights, 27-9, in the quarter to build a 49-27 halftime lead.
The Knights chipped away at Southwestern's lead in the second half and used a 12-2 run to get within five points 2:05 remaining in the fourth quarter, but they only scored one more point the rest of the game.
Lloyd scored 16 points to go along with a season-high 15 rebounds in the loss. Nguyen recorded her third straight double-double, and fifth of the season, with 10 points and 17 rebounds. Sarah Henry provided 12 points and eight boards off the bench.
The Knights will have nearly three weeks off before starting the PCAC season with a home game against MiraCosta on January 5 at 5 p.m. All home game are live-streamed via the Knights' YouTube channel.
