Andrew Suver is headed to the state championship after winning two matches at the Southern California regional tournament on Friday. The state tournament will be held at the Mount San Antonio College tennis courts on Friday, May 6 and Saturday, May 7.
Andrew Suver is headed to the state championship after winning two matches at the Southern California regional tournament on Friday. The state tournament will be held at the Mount San Antonio College tennis courts on Friday, May 6 and Saturday, May 7.
Suver, a freshman from Seattle, Wash., earned a 6-3 and 6-1 win over Fullerton's Jindrich Kosatik in the round of 32 and then shutout his next opponent, Rafa Rullan (Riverside), 6-0 and 6-0 in the round of 16 to qualify for the singles state championship.
Suver, who was the only Knight to make the All-Inland Empire Athletic Conference team in both singles and doubles, will be the 5-seed from Southern California at next week's tournament and will be matched up against NorCal 4-seed Arav Waghray from Chabot College in the in the round of 16 at 9 a.m. on May 6.
Three other Knights joined Suver on the All-IEAC team, including Carlos Robles (doubles), Sebastian Castaneda (doubles), and Brian Espinoza (doubles).
