Guillen, Velazquez, Woodworth Earn Major PCAC Awards

San Diego City had it's most successful conference season in four years, and as a result, the Knights earned some major awards. Sebastian Guillen was named PCAC Goalkeeper of the Year and Knights' leading scorer, Isaac Velazquez, was chosen as the PCAC Offensive Player of the Year. Brett Woodworth had a great season himself and was selected to the All-PCAC team along with Guillen and Velazquez. 

Guillen ended the season with 155 saves, which was the most in the state. He had 10 or more saves in eight games this year, including in the final two games which were wins over Mesa and MiraCosta. If it weren't for his prowess between the posts, the Knights would have never finished with a winning conference record for the first time since 2019. 

Velazquez was a scoring machine this season as he totaled 23 goals, which was the third most in the state. He was on fire throughout the year, but scored at least one goal in six of City's final eight games. He had seven multi-goal games, including a hat trick in a win at Orange Coast and a four-goal performance in a win at Palomar. He fell one goal shy of tying the most goals in San Diego City recorded history. That record remains with Francisco Contreras who put in 24 goals in 2016.

Woodworth was extremely valuable for the Knights this year by scoring and setting up goals. He tallied 11 goals, which included two braces, and dished out a team-best nine assists. He and Velazquez were a dynamic duo on offense who were in sync all season as Woodworth assisted on nine of Velazquez' goals.

The Knights had a strong finish to the 2023 season as they won four of their last six games, with a draw mixed in, to get to 6-5-1 in the PCAC.
