City Opens Season With 4-0 Home Win
The Knights opened the 2022 season at home on Friday and scored a quick goal on their way to a 4-0 victory over Compton. It was the first time since 2018 that the Knights came away with a win in their first game of the season.

The Knights opened the 2022 season at home on Friday and scored a quick goal on their way to a 4-0 victory over Compton. It was the first time since 2018 that the Knights came away with a win in their first game of the season.
Yovanny Contreras got City on the board early by finding the back of the net in the 3rd minute off an assist from Suleiman Saney. The Knights and Compton each had five shots in the first half, but Contreras' quick strike remained the only goal of the half.
However, it did not take much time for the Knights to score in the second half. Juan Balandrano got a touch on the ball before Matt Alonso knocked it in from 10 yards out to put the Knights on top, 2-0, in the 51st minute.
Twenty-eight seconds later, a long ball in from Javier Monarrez landed at the feet of Contreras as he beat Compton's keeper for his second goal of the day.
Then, in the 62nd minute, the Knights took a commanding 4-0 lead on Monarrez' goal from Yahir Rubio. The Knights were the more aggressive team in the second half, outshooting Compton 8-3. For the game, the Knights had a 7-0 advantage on corner kicks.
City goalkeeper Eduardo Vazquez earned the shutout win with three saves on the day.
The Knights are back home again on Tuesday against Santiago Canyon at 3 p.m.
