Bio

Rusty Smith is in his first year as the Associate Head Coach for the men's basketball team at San Diego City College. Before joining the Knights, Smith spent 18 seasons as Head Men's Basketball Coach at College of the Sequoias where he went 359-198 with three Central Valley Conference championships, four state final eight appearances, and a final four berth in 2004. 

Prior to his 18 years at Sequoias, Smith spent a combined 18 seasons as an assistant at Cal State Northridge (seven years), Eastern Washington (five years) and UC Riverside (six years).

With such an illustrious coaching career, Smith was inducted into the CCCMBCA Hall of Fame in March of 2022.

He is now reunited with Knights' Head Coach Mitch Charlens, who was an assistant under Smith during College of the Sequoia's 2003-04 run to the final four.
