Drew Cisse brought down a career high 21 rebounds to go along with 19 points and two blocks to help No. 6-ranked San Diego City earn its 10th consecutive victory, 74-64, over Miramar on Wednesday night. Jonathan Ogugua scored 19 points with four steals and Anthony Howell added 13 points and 10 rebounds as the Knights improved to 19-3 overall and 10-0 in the PCAC.
Miramar, who beat the Knights at their tournament championship on November 6, came out strong and took a 24-15 lead with seven minutes left in the first half. City, however, erased that deficit in a hurry with Ogugua turning up the tempo.
He pushed the ball up the floor for three straight transition layups, then stole the ball and found Makiah Morris for a fast-break dunk to bring the Knights within one. Ogugua hit a pair of free throws and Taleh Wade knocked down a 3 to complete a 13-0 run.
Wade hit two more 3-pointers in the first half, including one from 25-feet to beat the buzzer. In those final seven minutes of the half, City outscored the Jets, 24-4, to take a 39-28 halftime lead.
The Knights went up by 13 early in the second half, but Miramar, led by Artis Chapman's 21 points, put together a 9-0 run of their own in a 3-minute span to get within four with 13:10 remaining.
The Knights, however, kept attacking the paint and scored four straight layups to regain a 12-point lead and put the game out of reach. They ended up with a 50-16 advantage on points in the paint and also dominated the rebound battle. City nearly doubled up Miramar with a 52-27 rebounding edge, including a 20-2 advantage on offensive boards which led to 17 second chance points.
City's bench outscored Miramar's, 21-2, including Wade's nine points. William Wiggins and Noah Viera put in six points a piece.
The Knights are on the road for the next two games beginning with a 6 p.m. tip at Palomar on Friday. They will then play at Southwestern on February 14 at 5 p.m.
