Jonathan Oguggua and Josh Williams combined to score 46 points on Saturday, but it wasn't enough to help the Knights get past the No. 1 ranked team in the state as Fullerton pulled away in the second half to win, 70-61. The loss ended the Knights' two-game win streak and dropped their record to 4-2.
Ogugua totaled 25 points, four rebounds, and three steals, while Williams added 21 points. No other Knight had more than four points and City's bench only produced three points, all from Noah Viera.
San Diego City shot over 60% in the previous two wins over Orange Coast and Barstow, but had its worst shooting performance of this young season on Saturday as they were only able to make 19 of their 50 attempts (38%) against Fullerton.
The Knights, who are ranked No. 14 in the state and coming off a two-week break, held the lead for a good chunk of the first half and went ahead by as many as five points, but the Hornets closed the half on 10-1 run to take a 32-26 halftime lead.
Led by Kobe Newton's 19 points off the bench, Fullerton's lead grew to 43-30 less than five minutes into the second half. Ogugua then nailed back-to-back 3-pointers which were followed by a Williams free throw to cut the Hornets' lead down to six with 14:05 remaining, but that's as close as the Knights were able to get.
Fullerton responded with a quick 7-1 run to push its lead to 50-38 and held off the Knights the rest of the way to remain undefeated at 6-0.
Drew Cisse added four points, seven rebounds, four steals, and two blocks for City. He was named PCAC Athlete of the Week after putting up a combined 25 points, 23 rebounds, six assists, and eight blocks in the first two home games against Orange Coast and Barstow on Nov. 12 and 13.
The Knights will face Palo Verde on Friday, December 3 at 2 p.m. in the opening round of the Grossmont tournament. The winner will play either Saddleback or Palomar at 4 p.m. on December 4.
