Beach Volleyball Opens 2020 Season at Florida International University
The San Diego City College beach volleyball team will open its third season in Florida at the Florida International University Beach Bash on Friday, February 28. The Knights are set to play a total of five matches in two days.
The San Diego City College beach volleyball team will open its third season in Florida at the Florida International University Beach Bash on Friday, February 28. The Knights are set to play a total of five matches in two days.
City will start with a match against Florida Memorial University on Friday at 1:30 p.m. (EST) and will follow with contests against the Univerisity of North Florida at 4:30 p.m. and Florida International at 6:00 p.m.
On Saturday, the Knights will face Webber University at 9:00 a.m. and will wrap the tournament up against the University of Tampa at 1:30 p.m.
The Knights won only five of their 19 matches during their inaugural season in 2018, but improved to 11-11 in 2019 and Head Coach Dede Bodnar will have five sophomores coming back, including Alina Fletes, Kareemah Hopkins, Kiara Pena, Daylah Jackson, and Alana Holloway.
The Knights' pair of DeeAnn Schaal and Montse Barron made it to the state championship tournament last season, and the returning pair of Fletes/Hopkins advanced to the Southern California regionals in 2019.
After this trip to Florida, the Knights will head to Arizona for matches at Grand Canyon University in Phoenix on March 6 and 7. They will play their first conference matches against Mesa and Grossmont on the campus of San Diego Mesa on March 20.
