Competing in their second state championship meet in three years, the Knights had multiple runners who set or tied personal records at the Woodward Park 5k course in Fresno, including sophomores Isabelle Dalton and Diandra Jara. As they've done all season, they were the first two City runners to cross the finish line to help the team place 21st.
Dalton continued her second half season surge as the top runner for the Knights and nearly set a new personal best. She completed the state championship course in 20:20 (59th), which was 40 seconds faster than the last time she ran at the state meet in 2021.
She was followed closely by Jara who tied her course personal best (20:40; 73rd) despite taking a tumble to the ground during the second mile. Jara was the lone Knight who competed at the state championship a year ago.
Team scoring was rounded out by freshman Kai Bethea who set a new personal best (23:38), Glennis Lopez, who also set a PB with a time of (24:04), and Joscelyn Silva (24:32).
"The trip to the state championship was highlighted by gritty and tough performances from each runner," said head coach Marco Anzures. "They displayed mental toughness and a high degree of maturity as they prepared for the meet.
