Shorthanded Knights Put Up Good Fight at Grossmont

The Knights have been riddled with injuries since the start of the season and were only able to start 10 players in a 4-2 loss at Grossmont on Tuesday, but put up a good fight with Riana Kitchen and Ariana DiMartino scoring the first two goals of the year. 

Grossmont jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead with goals in the 7th and 9th minutes, but it didn't take too long for the Knights to respond. Kitchen, who scored six goals for the Knights last year, broke through with a goal in the 19th minute to get City back within a goal.

Knights' goalkeeper Nayali Zavala helped keep the Knights in the game with four of her seven saves coming in the first half.

Grossmont, however, scored twice within the first four minutes of the second half to take a 4-1 lead. 

City got one back in the 52nd minute when DiMartino put in her first goal of the year on a rebound to cut Grossmont's lead in half with an assist from Monica King.

The Knights had two chances in the closing minutes of the game, but shots from King and Sachiko Kuro were both saved by Grossmont's keeper.

City fell to 0-6 overall and 0-4 in the PCAC. The Knights will be home against Palomar on Friday at 3 p.m.
