Knights Win 3rd Straight, 9-5, Over Compton

The Knights were only up a run going into the bottom of the seventh, but they were able to score five runs in that inning and went on to defeat Compton, 9-5, to earn their third consecutive victory. First baseman Justin Kerby went 3-for-5 with one RBI and designated hitter Cruz Mujica went 2-for-4 with an RBI and two runs as the Knights improved to 4-3.

City got on the board early with two runs in the first inning off RBI-singles from Kerby and Mujica. Scott Wood, the starting pitcher for the Knights, went four innings and allowed only four hits with five strikeouts. Two of those hits were back-to-back doubles in the fourth inning that let to Compton's first run to cut City's lead to 2-1.

Compton struck again in the sixth with two more runs to take a 3-2 lead, but the Knights answered with a pair of runs in the bottom half of the sixth to regain a 4-3 advantage. Randy Lopez-Acosta, who had three RBI on the day, got his first after being hit with the bases loaded. Later in the inning, Edgar Padilla scored City's fourth run on a passed ball.

Then came the big seventh inning for the Knights, which Kerby led off with a double down the left field line. After James Teets walked, Mujica hit a bunt-single that forced a throwing error by Compton's pitcher, Shamir Marshall, that allowed Kerby to score. 

Teets later came home on a wild pitch to put the Knights up, 6-3. Then, with the bases loaded, Lopez-Acosta hit a 2-RBI single to right field to put his team ahead by five runs, but the Knights still weren't done.

With two out, Connor Stewart capped the inning off with an RBI-single that gave City a comfortable 9-3 lead.

Compton tried to rally back, but were only able to get two runs in the top of the eighth as City held on for the win.
