Martinez nearly went a full five innings without giving up a hit, but with two outs in the top of the 5th, Desert's Bryce Osman doubled to right field to break up the no-hitter.
Martinez got some help from the offense in the bottom of the 5th when the Knights loaded the bases for Workinger who came through with a 3-RBI double down the left field line to put City up 4-0. Workinger nearly came around to score himself on the play, but was thrown out at home plate.
Left fielder Jack Early hit a double in the sixth inning, advanced to third on a ground out, and then scored on a wild pitch to put the Knights ahead, 5-0.
Right fielder Chris Barkley added another run in the seventh inning on a double that allowed Alejandro Velasco to cross home plate from first base.
Desert cut City's lead in half with three runs off reliever Avery Laine in the top of the 8th. Clayton Smith hit a 2-RBI double and Christopher Burke later hit a sacrifice fly to get the Roadrunners back in the game.
The Knights, however, answered in the bottom of the 8th with two runs to give themselves a 5-run cushion. Shortstop Jorge Lucero scored on a sacrifice fly from catcher Israel Tafolla and then center fielder Hector Carreon singled in pinch runner Andre Petties-Wilson to give them the 8-3 lead they would hold on to after closer Dylan Vaughn shut down Desert in the 9th to end the game.
